social studies T4

kia Ora bloggers Today I have something to share.

So In social studies we wrote an essay.

Here is my essay

In 1830 there were 1,000 Māori and 200 Europeans living in New Zealand. The behavior of the Whalers, the Missionaries’ desire to help protect Māori rights, and the Musket Wars were reasons that a treaty was needed. The Declaration of Independence was another contributing factor to the need for a treaty.

One reason that a treaty was needed was the lawless behavior of some of the British Settlers like whalers. This is important because Maori felt unsafe because of the drunken whalers using Maori women as prostitutes and the moari felt unsafe a treaty could help this by making them not get drunk and use Maori women as prostitutes

Another reason that a treaty was needed was to protect Māori rights. One group that felt strongly about this was the missionaries. Because the land being brought was taken away from the Maori and they felt bad for them. So the missionaries would have thought the treaty was a good idea because Maori would have their rights cared for. The missionaries probably had sympathy for the Maori losing their land.

Another reason that a treaty was needed was the Musket Wars. Maori were killing each other because of the muskets they traded for. A treaty could have solved this problem by forbidding the use of muskets. Because the death toll of 20,000 people killed by the musket wars.Because Maori tribe territories were growing and shrinking for some tribes

The final reason that a treaty was needed was the existence of the Declaration of Independence. The declaration of independence gave New Zealand the status of an independent country. Because most of the Maori chiefs who signed the declaration of independence signed te Tiriti o Waitangi. But most chefs as well as the Maori king did not sign te Tiriti o Waitangi. Then a few years later the new Zealand wars began

In conclusion, a treaty was needed because most of New Zealand would have gone into chaos and Maori dying left and right. But te Tiriti o Waitangi was signed in 1840 and everything nearly went right as rain.

so what do you think?

have you learnt about the things in this essay?

year 10 writing portfolio

kia Ora bloggers Today I have something to share.

So over the past few terms we did some writing creative writing close viewing and a written essay.

here is the creative writing then the close viewing then the written essay.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Lex swung open the kitchen door and pulled her brother Tim in with her. As they slammed on one of the long metal tables it made a loud bang. Then from the silence, there was a horror-inducing sound and that was the door opening. Then they heard it. The growl it made was horrifying Then in the velociraptor came it was 6 ft tall with a stiff balancing tail and muscular forearms ending in deadly claws. The slow reptilian purr was like a cat. They could smell the scent of carnivores from their hiding place.

Then it made a high-pitched sound then another one came in. The first raptor snapped at the second one then the second one hissed at the first one. Both the animals started moving towards them so lex could only think to start crawling around the other tables to escape. As they moved around the second table the animal looked over but did not see them as they crawled the deadly toe-claws clicked on the tiling of the floor.

It was terrifying because the medium carnivore was just next to them with no clue where they were. Then out of nowhere, it dropped pots and pans on them. Suddenly one of them jumped onto one of the tables. Then one of them was close to finding Tim. The velociraptor bent down delicately and licked the fallen-over ladle with a bird-like aesthetic. So Lex grabbed a ladle and taped it on the ground. The raptor that was on the table jumped down from the table. So lex crawled into a built-in food cabinet. The velociraptor charged with terrifying speed It threw itself on a reflection of lex in the cabinet. It fell to the floor with a tremendous sound. Suddenly Tim ran into the freezer. The raptor slid on some melted ice and made a duck-like sound. So lex ran to help lock the door then the other velociraptor got up and charged. They heard it opened the door and locked it in with the other one.

They ran out of the kitchen and met up with Dr Grant and Dr. Sattler. As they got to the control room, a horrifying discovery was made both raptors had come from the maintenance shed. A velociraptor had followed them there and started to throw itself on the door to open it but Dr Sattler helped Dr Grant hold the door closed. Lex knew how to work a UNIX system And she rebooted the security systems and locked the door.

Then they went through the vents. But the raptor smashed in through the window and broke into the vents and got lex stuck. But Dr grant kicked it in the face as it fell to the floor with a dull thud. Then they got to the rotunda with the alamosaurus and Trex skeleton as they started to climb down. The velociraptor from the control room jumped and the alamosaurus skeleton broke and everyone was separated. And lex swung from the head and neck. She fell into a pile of bones. Then a velociraptor jumped out from behind the pile of bones. It barked at her as the velociraptor got her to the other survivors. Then out of nowhere, the tyrannosaurus rex grabbed a velociraptor mid-jump. Then they ran out where Lex and Tim's grandfather and Dr. Malcolm had a jeep and Lex heard Dr grant say not to endorse Jurassic Park. Then they got into the last helicopter out of Isla nublar. It flew silently over the water, as birds were flying just beside the helicopter.

in the powerful movie, the power of one shows what happened during the harrowing event of the apartheid the Afrikaners treated the black population of South Africa poorly. The three filming techniques i will be focusing on will be mise en scene setting symbolism.

In this essay you are reading yes you i will be talking about the three techniques in the movie

In the Goldfish Boy by Lisa Thompson, a memorable idea was that cleaning everything takes away a lot of time that you could be using to spend time with family which is much more important. The idea that was memorable to me was that I don’t like getting sick because it means I could pass it on and I don’t want that to happen. I love spending time with my family and friends.

It also opened my eyes to two worlds: a clean world where nobody gets sick and a world which is not clean. I would prefer a mixture of both.

The first memorable idea in the book was when Matthew started on his investigation to find one of his neighbors, Mr. Charles's grandson teddy.

He enlists the help of one of his other neighbor's melody bird to help with the investigation to find teddy. He investigates all of his neighbors when Teddy was in plain sight. One of his neighbors he didn’t investigate was his neighbors, His mum’s friends Penny and Gordon. Penny took Teddy because Teddy’s grandfather Mr. Charles was asleep while Casey Teddy's sister was playing with her doll on the floor next to her grandfather. Penny didn’t intend to keep him long but she did and it turned from helping to kidnap. Because she pressured her husband to not tell or do anything about teddy Until Matthew was trying to find his wallpaper lion's eye he saw a young boy's sticky handprint on the window. Then his old friend told the police detective about the handprint and that was how Penny and Gordon got arrested.

The second memorable idea was when he lost his little brother. Why it was a memorable idea to me was because I lost my grandfather to cancer. I was sad because I lost him and I loved him. If I could bring back someone from the dead I would bring back my grandfather and my dead pets.

The third memorable idea was that Matthew likes everything to be clean because later in the book he is diagnosed with obsessive, compulsive, disorder or OCD for short he reminds me when I do the dishes making them perfectly clean and not unclean

In conclusion, the memorable ideas were the ones listed above. The most memorable idea for me was how Matthew always wants things clean When I want the dishes fully clean instead of unclean.

English

kia Ora bloggers today I read a short story.
So we read a short story called the red sari
Then we had post reading questions
Look up one new word from the story you don’t know the meaning of, and re-write the definition in your own words.
The new word i looked up that i did not know
lorry
it is a type of truck
In “The Red Sari,” the narrator experiences a very different world to NZ. What is a quote from this story which shows this?
A quote from the story
whoever has the fastest vehicle get's the right of way.
Unless you're a cow. Then the whole world gives way to you.
What do you think the author, Apirana Taylor, wanted us to understand about experiencing different cultures?
to see what other cultures are like because there is more then one culture.
Does Apirana Taylor encourage us to appreciate people who are different to us? How so?
yes because everyone is equal and not different

Find one MINOR SENTENCE (grammatically incorrect, partial sentence or fragment) in The Red Sari. Why do you think the author chose to write in this way? What is the effect of this on the reader?
i could not find one of these
"sahib "sahib" I think that the author wrote it in this way was because he choose to.The effect this had on the reader was to challenge them to learn what it means

“Kali -- goddess of destruction -- rules” is an example of an ALLUSION (a reference to mythology, another text, historical event or person). Why did the author include this allusion in his writing? What is the effect of this on the reader?
because it is referencing to Hindu mythology and it impacts the reader by saying that the god of destruction is doing what she does best

Find an example of REPETITION in the story. What is the effect of this?
rupee rupee food food
the effect this has is to make it more lie real life
